No add ons

To celebrate the warm weather Allan made some awesome chili. It had a little heat but not so much that it chased you away from the great taste. Corn bread and salad to round it out and of course our usual great desserts. The food was so good and everyone was taking seconds that our teaching session got started a little late.

Not to be outdone by the great food Tom gave us a full plate from Galatians 2:11-21. He reminded us of how shocked Paul was to see the gentile Galatians being influenced by Jews from Jerusalem to add on to the Gospel to be justified. Then Peter comes along and he starts pulling back from  the gentiles because he's afraid of  what the brothers from Jerusalem might think. In a non verbal way he's insinuating that the Galatians need to do more to be accepted by God. Paul doesn't give him a pass but confronts him and asks him why he(Peter) being a Jew lives like a gentile but wants the gentiles to live like Jews and keep the law. He goes on to say we aren't justified by works but by the faith of Jesus Christ that makes us acceptable.

Here is a quote from Ravi Zacharias that sounds like the theme of Galatians.

One of the most staggering truths of the Scriptures is to understand that we do not earn our way to heaven. ...works have a place--but as a demonstration of having received God's forgiveness, not as a badge of merit of having earned it.
