It's hard to go wrong with chicken, potato salad, chips, and ice cream for dessert. We started our Wednesday night men's group being well fed as we visited and talked about our daily lives.
Dave Potts than gave his story on how he grew up in the church but it wasn't until his early 20's that God got hold of his heart and he invested in God's word by going to Multnomah and not only getting his B.A. but also meeting his wife Pat there. They felt God calling them to the mission field and spent a number of years in Africa but are right now living back in the Battle Ground area. Dave spoke on how serving God costs us something. In a missionary setting it often is a more dramatic cost as in separation from family or health issues. For us it might be time, money or dealing with family issues. He is not sure where the Lord will lead in the future but he and Pat are now involved in marriage coaching. Dave encouraged us with following the Lord daily and praying for those serving on the field as well as others.
There is a quip that says, "I'm going through a difficult transition called life." That is not what Dave spoke about as he talked of his own life. It was more like the apostle Paul who wrote this in Romans 8.
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[k] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Praises:
As we were listening to Dave, Uwe jumped as the buzzer on his phone went off. We happened to be talking about snakes in Africa so it brought a chuckle from guys. He answered it in the other room and found out he was the grandpa of little Benjamin Adam who came into the world at 6 & a half lbs. and 18 inches long.
Prayer:
For the youth group that their ears and hearts would be opened to know God.
That men would be spiritual leaders in their homes.
Making good decisions and peace for Tom's grandson who is in a mental hospital.
Kirsten and Brian as they struggle with health issues
For C. marriage relationship and wife's job problems
For our missionaries in different cultures and countries
Nathan as he is up for Captain and praise that he is back on base and safe now
Damon as he heads for Afghanistan on his 2nd tour
That Jim Mitchell can rejoin our group by being hired in one of the two job openings that just came open in the Portland/Vancouver area
